Installing a frameless shower door can be done in a snap with the proper preparation. The following is a quick guide for easy installation of heavy shower glass doors that will add luxury and elegance to any bathroom.
Measure the Frame
The first order of business when installing a frameless shower door is test out the height and width of the glass doors for the perfect fit. It is important to leave enough room at the bottom and in between the hinges for easy opening. Be sure to leave at least 3/16 of an inch between the heavy shower glass and the edge of the hinge as well as a 3/8 inch clearance on the bottom for easy sweep opening. Carefully measure and clearly mark the holes for the placement of the hinges. It is always a good idea to do a second placement test with the heavy shower glass and make all the needed last minute revisions before committing to drilling permanent holes.
Install Hinges
The next step is to drill the holes using a ¼ inch masonry drill. Safety goggles should be worn to protect eyes from any scattered debris. Be sure the holes are deep enough to accommodate 2 inch screws. After the holes are drilled anchor the hinges into place by firmly hammering them into the wall or tile taking care not to go deeply enough to bore through any wood.
Place Doors into Position
The final step in installing a frameless shower door is to place the heavy shower glass into position and tightly screw in the screws. Now it is time to attach the handles to the desired area using a screwdriver and then fitting the vinyl sweep to the bottom of the glass. To finish the job off trim at a 45-degree angle so that there is a good ½ of an inch buffer on each side of the door.
Enjoy the beauty of your newly installed frameless shower door!
